Outside and complementing the social security system's general
scheme of retirement at the age of 60 there are supplementary pension
schemes funded by contributions paid in by employers and employees:
- The ARRCO scheme (Association of Employees' Supplementary Pension
Funds) applies to all employees;
- The AGIRC scheme applies only to professional and managerial
staff and comparable employees, with contributions and benefits
being calculated on the portion of the wage that exceeds the social
security ceiling.
Special schemes relating to the pensions awarded by certain corporations
(employees of EDF or GDF, the SNCF or RATP, local government officials
and state-employed medical staff, civil servants, etc.).
