General Information

How to find a job (France)

At present, recruitment takes place firstly through personal contact, secondly through spontaneous applications, and finally through employment bureaux and the press (and more and more through the internet, for those working in IT).

Job offers are available through the public employment service: the local offices of the ANPE, and the regional offices of APEC, an employment service for professional and managerial staff funded and managed by unions and employers’ organisations together.

To benefit from the services of the ANPE, you have to be signing on as a jobseeker at the local offices of the Assedic, the unemployment insurance service. Those registering as jobseekers also have to undergo an initial interview, professional and professional and managerial staff in some cases attending a specialised office (the espace cadres); they have access to the job offers gathered by the ANPE.

The APEC offers management vacancies communicated by companies and collected from the press. Its services are in principle restricted to French professional and managerial staff (who with the employers are jointly responsible for funding it), but it will also generally advise European citizens, especially where they have been recommended by trade union organisations (who are involved in running the service).
