First meeting of the pensions forum

03/05/2005

From the outset, EUROCADRES has supported the idea of this forum, which was established on the recommendation of the high level group under Simone Veil in its report on free movement. We are delighted that this has come to fruition

The first meeting of the pensions forum took place in Brussels on 13 January 2000 with representatives from fifteen governments, the European social partners (employers and trade unions) and pension institutions.

This was an initial exchange of ideas. A number of problems were raised, such as financial mechanisms, and the rules, which apply in certain countries, and the minimal vesting period of employment within a company before qualifying for pension rights. Peter Smith, the EUROCADRES representative, asked for regular meetings of the forum. Solutions to these problems should focus on removing obstacles to mobility. For this reason, two annual meetings, supported by preparatory work, are planned,.
