European agreement on part time work
By using the procedure laid down in the Maastricht Treaty, European social partners have been involved for several months now in difficult negotiations on part-time work. EUROCADRES took part in these negotiations within the ETUC negotiating team.
The discussions ended on 14 May 1997 with an agreement which established a principle of non-discrimination in respect of part-time workers and proposed to facilitate the development of part-time work on a voluntary basis and to improve the quality of this.
Reference was made to vocational training, and it was noted that the measures taken should facilitate access to part-time work at all levels of the enterprise, including skilled and managerial positions. ( EUROCADRES-Flash n°13, June 1997)
This agreement was ratified by the respective bodies of the European social partners, then implemented trough a E.U. directive.
